Natural light can make a significant difference in the look and feel of a room. Lighting interior rooms and hallways with natural lighting can be a challenge, but you can do it with tube-type skylights. Traditional skylights are the equivalent of putting a window in your roof. Along with the sunlight come heat gain and loss, ice dams, and sometimes water leaks and noise. In contrast, tube-type skylights require smaller roof openings, have an exterior flashing to prevent leakage, and the interior of the tube is highly reflective to maximize light entering from any direction. A tube-type solar light of just 10-inches in diameter effectively brightens a bathroom or hallway. For larger living areas, a 14-inch diameter tube lights the way.
In the area illuminated by the skylight your need to turn on electrical lighting will be reduced. Fewer hours of electrical lighting needed equals a decrease in your energy consumption. |
