Saving Energy: Water Heating

Buying New Products – Cooking Sinks

One of the most popular items in upscale kitchens is the cooking sink. Designed for home gourmets, it makes cooking rice, pasta and other dishes safer and easier.

Instead of filling up a heavy pot of water and carrying it to the stove, you can cook right at the sink. Just fill the sink, turn on the heating element and wait for the water to boil.

When you're done, the sink drains with the push of a button - leaving the cooked food in this removable strainer. Manufacturers like Kohler produce cooking sinks in 15-inch and 30-inch diameters.

The only requirements are a 240-volt power circuit and a standard base cabinet. You can position a cooking sink by your standard kitchen sink for quick clean-up, or by the stove for convenient cooking.

Installing a cooking sink is a professional job, requiring a certified plumber and electrician. Your plumbing or remodeling contractor can help you choose the style and size that's right for your family's needs.
